Overview

Microsoft Word is the most popular Word Processer in the world with 1.2 billion people using it. It is the easiest to use and most efficient word processing program. In this review you will learn about the pros and cons about Microsoft word and some tips and tricks.

Pros

The user-friendly system of Word is a major selling point. Word allows people to use all the basic features without having understand the advanced settings. However, the system also allows more advanced users to delve into the settings. Word allows the user to easily add in a bibliography using their tool or easily add a table. Documents can be exported as many file types which is extremely helpful when dealing with people on different operating systems. It is also very easy to change the color, font and size of any text.

When you pair Word with OneDrive you get a seamless experience with auto-save meaning you will never lose your work. You can log into OneDrive on someone else’s computer meaning you always have a backup plan if your computer fails. Word has advanced features that such as adding comments, drawing and using many add-ins such as Grammarly. Overall, Microsoft Word is a brilliant tool allowing you to create documents from assignments to resumes easily.

Cons

Microsoft Word does have features that could be improved. The Google word processor has a much better ability to collaborate on files. Microsoft Word lacks the ability to easily share your documents with people to edit in real time so a team can work on a document together.

Tips & Tricks

To make your Microsoft Word experience easier, Word has tools that allow you to save a lot of time. One of Word’s tools that is extremely helpful is the referencing tool. In the bar at the top of your documents you will see “References.” If you click on that button it will bring you to a bar with all of these buttons for different sorts of referencing. If you click on the “Insert Citation” button you will be able to select a source type and enter all of the details, once you are done click “Ok” and it will put a in text citation of the source you just entered where your cursor was. Once you are done with your document you can press the bibliography button and choose which sort you want to put into your document.

Another very helpful feature in Word is the ability to change the auto-correct settings. This means that if you have an assignment on a topic like, “How did Qin Shi Huang’s reign effect China” instead of trying to write Qin Shi Huang every time you could put the name into auto-correct so that you can type “qsh” and Word automatically changes that to Qin Shi Huang. This is very helpful.

Conclusion

Microsoft Word is extremely popular because it is the easiest to use Word Processor, with an excellent feature set.
