Microsoft Teams Review

By EJ Poier

Overview

Microsoft Teams is a digital conferencing software which you can download for free on any computer. It is widely used in education for online classes and for online meetings to make you seem more connected as if you are all in the room together.

Main Features

There are three main, standout features of Microsoft teams. The first is it’s easy and free to access, you can simply click the link to the meeting given to you and join the meeting in an online browser if you have a Microsoft account signed in or just download the app which is compatible with all computers.

Another main feature of Microsoft teams is how well it does its job as an online conferencing platform. The combination of minimal useless features, little distractions and good security all contribute to the overall quality of the platform. In addition, the platform is visually designed very well to improve focus on the actual meeting at hand, it doesn’t allow you to change your name directly to insure you can’t pose as someone else and it has a calendar feature which allows you to plan out your work increasing productivity.

The third main feature of this conferencing platform is its chat function. If you are in a group call it automatically creates a group chat with everyone present in the group call, however the real feature is the individual chat where you can directly message any person of your choice. This allows you to send files and chat while not having to be in a call with others.

Comparison

Microsoft teams’ main competitor is the conferencing platform Zoom. Zoom much like Microsoft teams is an online conferencing platform however, there are a few main differences you must take into account before choosing which to use. Zoom while still being free to use, it has a much lower overall quality compared to Microsoft teams. Microsoft teams has a much more polished look, better, more useful features as well as it’s brilliant chat function which zoom just does not have. Zoom only allows you to chat while in a group call with multiple other people, it doesn’t allow you to send direct messages to a single person which is exactly what Microsoft teams allows. In addition to these previous persuasive points, Microsoft teams has a calendar function in which you can schedule meetings, make your own events or just simply schedule your workload for increased productivity.

Conclusion

In conclusion, given all of the pros and cons of Microsoft teams and after comparing it with its main competitor it is most definitely the online conferencing platform you should choose to use.
